GST Inclusive vs Exclusive – What's the Difference?

Exclusive GST (Add Tax): The price shown does NOT include tax. GST is added on top. A product priced at ₹1,000 with 18% GST becomes ₹1,180 total.

Inclusive GST (Remove Tax): The price shown already INCLUDES tax. A ₹1,180 inclusive price means the base price is ₹1,000 and GST is ₹180.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is CGST and SGST?
Under India's GST system, total GST is split equally between the Central Government (CGST) and State Government (SGST). So 18% GST = 9% CGST + 9% SGST. For interstate transactions, IGST (Integrated GST) applies instead at the full rate without splitting.
How do I calculate GST from a GST-inclusive price?
GST Amount = (Inclusive Price × Tax Rate) ÷ (100 + Tax Rate). Example: ₹1,180 inclusive price at 18%: GST = (1180 × 18) ÷ 118 = ₹180. Base price = ₹1,000. Use the "Remove Tax" mode in our calculator for this automatically.
What products have 0% GST in India?
Items with 0% GST include: fresh fruits and vegetables, milk, eggs, unprocessed meat, bread, salt, natural honey, contraceptives, educational services, and most healthcare services. These essential items are exempt to keep basic necessities affordable.
What are VAT rates in the UK and Europe?
UK standard VAT is 20% with a reduced 5% rate for certain goods like domestic fuel and children's car seats. EU countries range from 17% (Luxembourg) to 27% (Hungary). Most of Europe has a standard VAT of 20–23%.
