By RapidTool Team  ·  Last updated: September 2026

Our free salary tax estimator calculates your approximate net take-home pay after income tax and social security contributions for the United States, United Kingdom, India, Canada, and Australia. Enter your gross salary, select your country and filing status, and instantly see a complete breakdown of deductions and net pay.

What Deductions Are Included?

Our estimator accounts for federal/national income tax using progressive tax brackets, social security or national insurance contributions, and provides your effective tax rate. State/provincial taxes and employer pension contributions are excluded for simplicity — actual take-home may vary.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between gross and net salary?
Gross salary is your total pay before any deductions (taxes, social security, pension). Net salary — also called take-home pay — is what you actually receive after all mandatory deductions. Most job offers quote gross salaries, so knowing your net pay is essential for budgeting.
What is an effective tax rate?
The effective tax rate is the actual percentage of your income paid in taxes — not the bracket rate. Because tax systems are progressive (higher brackets only apply to income above a threshold), your effective rate is always lower than your top marginal rate. For example, a $75,000 US salary has a 22% top marginal bracket but an effective rate of around 13%.
How accurate is this salary calculator?
This tool provides estimates based on approximate federal/national tax brackets and social security rates. It does not account for state or provincial taxes, employer benefits, pension deductions, pre-tax contributions (401k, HSA), or individual tax credits. For precise calculations, consult a tax professional or use your country's official tax calculator.
What is the income tax rate in India for 2024?
India uses two tax regimes: the new regime (default) has rates of 5% (₹3–7L), 10% (₹7–10L), 15% (₹10–12L), 20% (₹12–15L), and 30% (above ₹15L), with a ₹3L basic exemption. Income up to ₹7L has zero effective tax under the new regime due to rebate u/s 87A. Our calculator uses the new tax regime.
