Free Plagiarism Checker – Detect Duplicate Content Online

By RapidTool Team  ·  Last updated: September 2026

Our free plagiarism checker compares two texts and identifies duplicate content, matching phrases, and similarity percentage. Using advanced n-gram matching and LCS (Longest Common Subsequence) algorithms, it highlights exactly which sentences and phrases appear in both texts — perfect for educators, writers, students, and content creators.

📝 Content WritersVerify content originality before publishing
👨‍🏫 Teachers & EducatorsCompare student submissions for copied content

How Does This Plagiarism Checker Work?

Our tool uses a combination of techniques: N-gram analysis breaks both texts into overlapping sequences of words (3-grams by default) and counts matches. Jaccard similarity measures the ratio of shared n-grams to total unique n-grams. LCS (Longest Common Subsequence) finds the longest sequences of words that appear in the same order in both texts. Combined, these give a comprehensive similarity score.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a safe plagiarism similarity percentage?
Most academic institutions consider similarity below 15–20% acceptable, as some overlap is inevitable (common phrases, citations, technical terminology). Similarity above 30–40% typically requires explanation or revision. However, thresholds vary by institution — always check your school's specific plagiarism policy.
Can this tool check my text against the internet?
This tool compares two text inputs you provide — it does not search the internet. For checking against web content, dedicated services like Copyscape, Grammarly, or Turnitin are needed. Our tool is ideal for comparing a submission against a known source, or checking if two documents share content.
What is the difference between plagiarism and paraphrasing?
Plagiarism is using someone else's words or ideas without attribution. Proper paraphrasing means rewriting content in your own words while crediting the original source. However, "patchwriting" — slightly changing words while keeping the same structure — is also considered plagiarism in academic contexts even if individual words differ.
How does duplicate content affect SEO?
Duplicate content confuses search engines about which version to index and rank. When the same content appears on multiple URLs, Google splits ranking signals between them, weakening both. Using canonical tags or consolidating duplicate content helps preserve SEO value. Our tool helps identify content overlap before publishing.
Does the order of the two texts matter?
For the similarity score, no — it will be the same regardless of which text goes in which box. However, the "Unique in Text 1" and "Unique in Text 2" percentages will reflect which text is which. For academic checks, put the reference/original in Text 1 and the submission in Text 2.
